Kef R7 Meta are the quintessential floorstanding HiFi speakers. Within Kef’s legendary and newly revamped R Meta series, the R7 Meta sit squarely in the middle between the entry-level R5 model and the incredible top-of-the-line Kef R11s. While providing the same ease of in-room placement as the more compact model, These R7 Meta’s feature an impressive 165 mm woofers that allow them to go even lower, in fact they are able to go as low as 33 Hz in this case.
Metamaterials are created from existing materials but specially designed to exhibit unique properties. Among other things, this innovation has enabled Kef to win the What Hi-Fi award as Innovation of the Year 2020 and to greatly improve the performance of benchmarks such as LS50 Meta and Wireless II, LS60 Wireless, as well as the absolute benchmarks Kef Blade Meta and Kef Reference Meta.
Now at last, Kef’s R series also joins the range of products that offer such faithful sound that will make you fall in love with every recording, literally hurling you with emotion inside your favorite live performances!
R7 features the 12th revolution Uni-Q
Inspired by natural spherical sound emission, the Uni-Q is the hallmark of Kef’s signature sonority and consists of a tweeter grafted right in the acoustic center of the cone.
The result is a single body and thus a single final driver: frequencies will thus be emitted from the same point in space, allowing the sound to propagate evenly throughout the room, eliminating the limited concept of a “sweet spot.”
The design of the Uni-Q patent has been researched since 1988 and has also won numerous awards. Today – now in its 12th revision – however, it has been completely redesigned to accommodate the revolutionary MAT™ technology inside.
First, the conical waveguide that couples the dome to the new metamaterial absorber has been redesigned. It now also integrates two rings of porous material to improve detail and clarity.
The new design also continues in the midrange, with a new magnetic motor assembly, now with very low distortion. This allows a longer driver excursion, effectively expanding the frequency extension.
Finally, not to be underestimated is the wide angular dispersion – always an incredible Kef peculiarity.
All these upgrades offer an end result sounding even more natural, free of coloration, and with remarkable dynamics.
Kef R7 Meta in the Room
For more than six decades, Kef has been dedicated to the pursuit of perfection in high-quality audio reproduction.
Guided by a passion for acoustics, the Maidstone-based brand has always collaborated with internationally renowned industrial designers to create cutting-edge loudspeakers that combine innovative technologies with ultra-modern looks.
Kef R7 Meta, like the full range, is available in three elegant classic colors, with all the tone-on-tone details giving this floorstanding speaker a timeless look: glossy black, glossy white, and walnut.
Kef also wanted to create a truly eye-catching special edition for this R7 Meta finished in Polished Titanium with a Red driver, and one for the R3 Meta, with an Indigo Gloss finish and gold Uni-Q, which makes the bookshelf model truly unique.
The size of these speakers, combined with their high-level low-frequency performance-possible thanks to the equipment of two 165 mm woofers and the dual rear reflex- makes them easy to place in a medium-sized room. For sounding large rooms, however, we suggest the integration within the set-up of a subwoofer to give the “right punch” to your recordings.
R7 Meta are also ideal as front speakers for a high-end Sorround design. In fact, the R Meta line also includes a Dolby Atmos model and two LCR speakers R2 and R6 Meta, which can be placed either vertically or horizontally, as center, rear or side channels, to create a custom home cinema system!
Shadow Flare
In the R7 Meta speakers, as in the entire revamped line, Kef has implemented a technology derived from the first emblazoned Reference Series. Here the famous Tangerine Waveguide, or waveguide offered by the Uni-Q, is supported by the innovative “Shadow Flare,” the special outer ring that seamlessly connects the driver to the rest of the cabinet.
This innovation was intentional and designed for a very specific purpose: to drastically reduce the diffraction effects created in a classically shaped speaker with edges and corners. The combined use of the latest generation Uni-Q and Shadow Flare enables the British manufacturer to produce an ultra-performing, monolithic and elegant speaker with a modern design.
This makes it possible to take sonic realism to the extreme without having to spend crazy money on elaborately shaped cabinets. Thus more resources are allocated where the sound is generated.
New Patented Grilles of Kef R7
Subject of a patent, the front grilles of this new Meta R series take advantage of more than 1,800 holes, made by laser, for each driver and are created by hot fusing dimicrofiber and 13 different layers of composite materials. The resultant is a new type of magnetic protection that does not affect the sound in the slightest.
R7’s brand new protective grilles of the R7 Meta are, in themselves, a masterpiece.
Ultra-thin, ultra-rigid and elegant, they are tone-on-tone with the speaker’s finish, effectively revolutionizing speaker protection design. A true Kef-style touch of class.
